Laura Sanchez
was honored by her alma mater, Stanford Business School as the recipient of the Jerry I. Porras Latino Leadership Award. "Laura has demonstrated exemplary qualities of leadership through her professional achievements and community involvement." Laura serves on the West Coast Operating Committee for Goldman Sachs, and is a member of the Private Wealth Management Division's Leadership Council. She joined Goldman Sachs in 1994, and was named managing director in 2007. She is on the board of the Stanford Business School Alumni Association.
 

Heidi Kuhn, founder and CEO of Roots of Peace, announced the agency was awarded a $30.4 million grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development to aid farmers in some of Afghanistan's most dangerous provinces.  It is the largest such grant the federal government has given to a nongovernmental organization.

Mary Lou Lackey will become the new Vice President and Secretary to the Board of Regents at the University of the Pacific. She is currently Executive Assistant Dean at Pacific McGeorge where she manages finance, IT, HR, buildings and grounds, security, food services and auxiliary enterprises.   In addition to supporting the Board of Regents, Mary Lou's new responsibilities will include supervising information technology, institutional planning, legal counsel, and the President's Office.

Elaine Petrocelli has been recognized among this year's "Woman-Owned Business of the Year" awards handed out by Women's Initiative for Self-employment, a Bay Area nonprofit.

WFW Member Linda Hawes Clever, MD, is the new Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs at the Stanford University School of Medicine. In January, 2010, her book, The Fatigue Prescription, Four Steps to Renewing your Energy, Health, and Life, will be published by Viva Editions.

One of our newer members, Maureen Gevertz, has just published her workbook: "Change Navigation Made Easy" and it can be found online at Amazon.com.

The University of Hawaii Board of Regents has chosen M.R.C. Greenwood as the university's next president.

 
AWARDS

WFW Member Zelma Long has been honored several times this year. Zelma has received the following awards
in 2009: Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award by University of California at Davis Alumni Association; the American Society of Enology and Viticulture annual Merit Award, the California State Fair Lifetime Achievement Award and the American Wine Society Merit Award. Our congratulations to Zelma for her many honors.
